This book of reminiscences, anecdotes, poems, greetings, scientific accounts, and photographs was assembled from contributions of 85 former and 52 current members of the Plant Research Laboratory. It is dedicated to Anton Lang on the occasion of his retirement from the directorship of the PRL. The voices of those who are or have been associated with the Laboratory capture better than any of the official reports the essence of the PRL: A place of intellectual excitement, free flow of information, critical evaluation of each others' work, and good comradeship. Contributions leave no doubt that Anton Lang, as director, set the tone and the standards for the PRL. For this, the most fitting form of appreciation is the individual gratitude of the members of the worldwide PRL community.
